Privacy Policy
speakzy.club is built so that your voice stays with you. Your recordings and transcripts are made and kept on your own device. We don't have accounts, we don't run analytics, and we don't set cookies. The only thing you can choose to give us is your email address, if you join the newsletter.
What happens when you practice
When you start a take, your browser asks for permission to use the microphone. The audio is recorded in your browser. It is turned into text on your device, using a speech model that runs in the page. The recording is not uploaded to us or to anyone else.
The same goes for the analysis. Pace, filler words, pauses and the score are calculated in your browser from your own transcript.
What is saved on your device
- Your takes (transcript and speaking metrics) are saved in your browser's local storage.
- The audio of each take is saved in your browser's IndexedDB storage, so you can play it back.
- Your theme choice (light or dark) is saved in local storage so the site looks the way you left it.
- If you join the newsletter, the time of your last sign-up is saved in local storage. It is used as a short cooldown to stop accidental or repeated submissions.
All of this lives only in the browser you used. It isn't synced anywhere and we can't see it. To remove it, clear this site's data in your browser settings. If you clear it, your takes are gone for good.
Newsletter
If you sign up for the newsletter, we collect two things: your email address and the time you signed up. We collect nothing else about you. We use your address only to send the newsletter, which is planned as one prompt deck and one speaking note every other week.
- Where it is stored: in a private Google Sheet. Google therefore acts as our service provider for that storage, and receives your address when you submit the form.
- Who sees it: only the people who run speakzy.club. We don't sell, rent or share the list.
- How long we keep it: until you ask us to remove it, or until we stop running the newsletter.
- Your choices: you can ask us at any time to delete your address or to tell you what we hold about you.
To limit spam, the form uses a hidden field, a short cooldown, and a check on how quickly it was submitted. None of these collects personal information.
Other services the page talks to
Some things the page needs are loaded from other providers. When your browser fetches them, those providers can see standard request details such as your IP address. None of your recordings or transcripts are sent to them.
- Google Fonts serves the typeface.
- jsDelivr serves the code libraries used for transcription and pitch analysis.
- Hugging Face hosts the speech model. It downloads the first time you analyse a take and is then cached in your browser.
- Google (Apps Script and Sheets) receives your email address only if you submit the newsletter form.
What we don't do
- We don't create accounts or ask you to sign in.
- We don't use analytics, advertising or tracking cookies.
- We don't send your recordings or transcripts anywhere.
- We don't sell or share your data. The only personal data we hold is the email address of anyone who joins the newsletter.
Children
speakzy.club isn't aimed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their email addresses. If you think a child has joined the newsletter, ask us and we'll remove the address.
Changes to this policy
If we change how the site handles data, we'll update this page and the date at the top.
